An exceptionally rare and wonderful quality solid fourteen carat yellow gold travel corkscrew. This practical and beautiful object is very rare. We have never had another gold corkscrew. The gauge of gold is thick and solid, and can be used without fear of damage. Once inserted into the bottle, the handle is tactile in the hand and ergonomic.
These travel corkscrews were popular for their ease of use and compact size once folded away. The piece unscrews into two pieces, then the cork screw part is pulled out to develop it, and then it simply folds forward into a designated slot. Screw back the other side of the handle, and there is a comfortable and stable corkscrew. The condition of the piece is exceptional throughout. The piece dates circa 1900, made in America, with the corkscrew mechanism signed "Germany" for being made there. There is a stock number stamped into the end, along with what appears to be a makers mark, although this maker has not been identified.
